Big 10 Tour members defects to see a Pac 10 team play a team who has already lost to a Big 10 team

As you can probably guess, the television networks think the USC/Notre Dame game is a bigger deal than Purdue/Ohio State.   As you read this, you probably agree with the networks, but then again you didn’t agree to become part of the Big 10 Tour.

Last week, the members of the Big 10 Tour received the following email from one of their members with parenthesis around the what should have been said:

"I can't make it to the game on 10/17.  Julie (co-worker) has tickets (from a vendor) to the USC-Notre Dame game that afternoon, and I was invited along...I couldn't turn down the opportunity to see that game.

I'll send you the contact info for (a person that you’ve never met nor ever spoken to), but I don't want to ask for more (even though I didn’t ask for these) tickets since they are giving me tickets to one of the biggest, if not the biggest, college football rivalry game.  I would feel awkward asking for something on top of a ticket like that (even though I agreed to help the Big 10 Tour and am clearly only helping myself here).
However, if you (not me, who knows this person) can spin an
e-mail with the website, we're looking for help, we work (with others you know), then you (even though I want to be part of the “you” when other games come around) might be able to score tickets to Wisconsin and possibly other teams that (vendor) sponsors."

Now as you can probably guess this irritated many of the “tour” members as we all agreed to attend as many games as possible.  “Found a more appealing game to attend” doesn’t qualify as a valid excuse.  Unfortunately when a single person drops from the fold, everyone’s expenses increase & is responsible for doing more.

So Purdue – email us – what do you think about Wes’ decision to shaft your school?  The best comments will be posted on an upcoming blog post!

Dear Wes,

When you get bored and you will, because ND doesn't allow tailgating during the game and doesn't allow halftime pass out tickets either(As Purdue does). You will be sober by the 2nd qrtr, tired and miserable. Meanwhile all your friends will be having the best time on the tour!If all that mattered was a "bigger game" than you clearly miss the point of tailgating.South Bend is only a couple hours away, so I after 15 minutes when you realize your mistake, get in your car and join the crew. ND is the most overrated gameday experience in the country!!!

Big 10 Tour failure...

Not only will you have to watch terrible football (USC is going to rape Notre Dame), you won't get to experience the best pre-game tradition in college football: Breakfast Club.

Have fun gawking at Touchdown Jesus instead. Incredibly lame...

I went to Purdue, and if given the choice between these two games, I'd go to South Bend also. The Buckeyes are going to crush my Boilers this weekend and I can't think of anything that would cheer me up more than watching Notre Dame get pasted at home by "their rival" USC. (Of course if you ask USC who their rival is, they'll tell you it's actually UCLA).

Agreed, the USC/ND game MAY be more appealing; but maybe you missed the point about him being part of their tour. You don’t agree to be part of the tour and then skip out

As a fairly recent Purdue Alumni, and a media member myself, I was astonished at the lack of Big Ten support shown by Mr. Givens. I'm sure that Wes is a fantastic professional in his own right, but as a member of a prominent Big10 Blog, I figure that his Big Ten passion may be questionable. After all, he is passing on "beautiful" West Lafayette, Indiana, in favor of a football game which hosts a national juggernaut (USC) vs. perennial jokes/jerks (Notre Dame), a school which has repeatedly slighted any attempt to join the very conference he vows to cover.

Although the game has the glitz and glamor of dreamlike proportions, I am willing to say that a man who is obviously intelligent (as a worker of a Big10 blog) could have such a horrible, grave lapse in judgment.

I have worked in the media for a few years now, and could imagine no better life scenario as to visit, cover, and report the sitings of every Big10 campus. I humbly ask if you are hiring, or looking to add to your fraternal brethren of Big10 bloggers, to please keep this more than qualified young man in mind.

No offense to Wes in anyway, but this smacks of every guy ditching his buddies to attempt woo the mega-hot sorority girl on campus. We know how this all ends...

A large bar tab, disappointment, and shame.

So if he's not up to the job, I am.

Hey Benedict Arnold, I mean Wes, it kind of defeats the purpose of having a tour of Big10 stadiums when you miss one. Way to stick with the team tard.

I hope you enjoyed the game. The Purdue game wasn't too exciting.

Hahaha. Wes watched Notre Dame lose once again for the 8th straight time to their 'rival' and missed one of the biggest upsets of the year in Purdue. Way to go!

I loved to hear from Wes now that he saw what he missed and whether he regrets his stupid decision!!! It was one of the best upsets I've ever seen!
