Minnesota Sights

Picture
Being one of the larger cities in America, there are many things to see when passing through Minneapolis and/or St. Paul.  Unfortunately we didn't get to see many of the things on campus, but we did see many items in the short time that we were there.

Meter-long bratwurst & 2 sides!
One of the things that we wanted to try was the meter-bratwurst at Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit on Universtity Avenue.  It's another one of those German bars that have a large boot that you can drink from and sing "ziggy zoggy oye oye oye," but this place has a few other attractions.  First is the meter bratwurst challenge where a patron can attempt to eat approximately 3 feet of bratwurst with 2 sides. Next is the snuff cannon that is shown in the video below.  Third, the place is HUGE!  A large dining area, a downstairs, and a huge ten outside to house beer drinkers!

Unfotunately Drew was not able to handle this "Man vs. Food" Challenge.  He breezed through the sides and the first foot of the bratwurst, but complained that the same old bratwurst flavor bite after bite led to his demise.  Rather than ruin his night of drinking and potentially not feeling well for the tailgate the next day, he threw in the towel halfway through.

Drew still left with a certificate...but the certificate had "SHAME "written across it for failing the meter-bratwurst challenge.

Matt's Bar
If you're going to have a cheeseburger in Minneapolis, you've got to have a Jucy Lucy/Juicy Lucy.  If you haven't heard the debate on the correct spelling, read here.

Anyways, after asking the Minnesota residents, they felt we should try Matt's Bar rather than the 5-8 Club.

We all ordered the typical cheeseburgers and got a basket of fries.  The service was lacking & the server had a little attitude when we tried to ask for specific condiments on the cheeseburger, but it was easily one of the best burgers we've ever eaten.  In the photo below, you can see the molten core of cheese leaking out of Dan's burger after his first bite.

While no one goes to malls anymore, we thought we'd stop in at the Mall of America since it was something we had heard so much about when we were children.

Nowadays, there are many empty shops but it is still pretty neat to roam around the massive complex.  The best part is the center of the mall where there is all types of food and an amusement park.  In the video below you'll see that we tried the roller-coaster.
