Ohio Sights

Who discovered America?
What you'll find on this page is moreless the sights of downtown Columbus, OH on an early Sunday morning.  We'll start with a big statue of Columbus.  Makes you think, how was a city in the midwest named after some guy who discovered the West Indies?

As you can see below with Wes and Jeff standing next to it, this statue was mammoth!

All aboard!
Speaking of Columbus (person), I'm sure you've heard of the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria.  Not only did Columbus (city) erect a large statue, someone threw a replica ship in the budget.  If you walk down by the water of Battelle Riverfront Park, you'll see a replica of the Santa Maria.  Rent this ship out for your next corporate function!

While you're in Battelle Riverfront Park, you may want to take a look at some of the other sights shown below.

Columbus was filled with many larger than life billboards.  Some very interesting uses of the barren sides of buildings in the downtown area.

Graduation Cap
Columbus is home to some "big" things.  The biggest university and population in the state of Ohio are a given.  But did you know that it had the biggest graduation cap?

Or how about the biggest gavel?  This would probably get some attention if it were slammed onto a desk!

The biggest contemporary spelling of the word "Art" ... it's here too!

Street or subliminal message?
To the left here is a sign that resembles a street sign, but I'm not exactly sure if it was the name of a street or if it was an attempt by the city of Columbus to keep itself off of the nation's "Most Obese Cities" list.

In the photo below, you see what you get when you combine Dunkin' Donuts with Times Square in Manhattan, NY.

Well apparently not all newspapers have went out of business because the Dispatch still seems to be using electricity.

The swimming in the Scioto River should however go out of business as you see in the photo below.

Arena District
While Columbus ranks in the top 20 American cities as far as population goes (750,000 +), it only has one professional sports team as far as the 4 major sports are concerned. This team is the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL.  I don't see many other sports franchises moving to Columbus when it was recently announced that the team was losing $12 million a year.  I was disappointed when my travel mates voted me down on my request to take a day off for the Ohio State trip as Nationwide Arena was rated the #1 fan experience among all 121 professional sports teams by ESPN the magazine.
